Ivanhoe 1945a x64 - Gauntlet Matches 100 Rounds

Ivanhoe 1945a is an Ippolit clone by +Dmitri Gusev  which was released last June 21, 2013.

It scored 45.6% with 470 wins, 646 losses and 884 draws against the top 20 strongest chess engines in the 100 rounds gauntlet tournament. Ivanhoe 1945a beat 7 strong engines including Rybka 4.1, Robbolito 0.21Q and Bouquet, but lost to the 13 stronger chess engines. It also beat Ivanhoe 46h by insignificant margin but was not able to displace because of higher overall ELO rating.

Ivanhoe 1945a was derived from Ivanhoe 999946h, the last active version circulating in the Internet which was released last December 11, 2011. There were half-hearted releases in between but never became popular probably because there was no executable that came with it. The author/s assumed that somebody will compile it for them. Ivanhoes stagnated and was the weakest in the Ippolit family being overshadowed by Fire, Robbolito and even Igorrit. It is a crippled open source chess engine that will never compile unless some missing codes were inserted.

Ivanhoe 1945a is a corrected version of Ivanhoe 999946h where some missing source codes were added that makes compilation easier. Any interested person that wants to study Ivanhoe is wise to start with Ivanhoe 1945a.

    1. Hello Velmarin,

Thanks for the messages pointing out some problems.

Perhaps the best person to answer to the question of why this particular game has several forfeiture is probably the author of Arena GUI, Martin Blume. This is one of several quirks I found against Arena, but there is no perfect program.

I once tested Little Blitzer at the same time control of 1 minute + 1 second but disappointed to find that there were also losses on time. In this rating list site, losses on time is normal due to the fast time control and I was already aware of that since the beginning. The losses due to time forfeit is probably around 1 to 5% depending on the load of the computer, and so that was part of the rating list process. Chess is random and the results of any rating list or tournament site are random. Nothing is ever the same or reproducible.

I checked the Ivanhoe 1945a run as I compose this message and found out that Bouquet has the highest number of losses by time forfeit. Well, I am not surprised because I already made a remarks on the Bouquet 1.7b run that it needs special attention for failing to win a single match in my AMD Quad computer caused mostly by time forfeit and all the "good" matches were made in my 3 other AMD dual core computers. It is fortunate that Bouquet made a high mark after sanitizing some irregular results (by doing a re-match in another computer) which are related with time forfeit.

I am not comfortable when I need to adjust some parameters in the UCI parameter options or use a different computer just to adapt to the needs of a particular chess engine.

In this case, Bouquet 1.7b required so much of my attention and caused trouble that may contaminate my rating list which may not be worth to include it.

    2. this is not Bouquet.

      A disaster tournament.
All games end up time, incredible.
      (especially against Bouquet)
Some games of only 3 plays.
      Example.

      [Black "Ivanhoe 1945a x64"]

I just wanted to see games Bouquet, and your test is terribly flawed.

Thank you for your time and for your things.
