Stockfish Clones War - 11/02/2014

After the exploratory tests in the previous post with Fried Shark 141102 against Stockfish 14110208 and SF 271014 MZ, it is time to test it against other prominent SF clones such as Sugar, Heron and DON. This is just to verify if the previous results are consistent for credibility. The tournament was a 100 round robin with 1 minute base + 1 second increment time control. All the matches were conducted in a single computer with AMD 4 core CPU, 4 MB RAM running on Linux with Arena on WINE. This should minimize the statistical deviation as compared to running it on different set of computers with different components and software. The engine versions were the latest and the best compiles to make the battle fair.

The result showed that Fried Shark topped the 100 round robin tournament with 3.5 points lead over runner up Sugar 2.0e. Fried Shark beat all opponents, Sugar was so overwhelming against DON while Heron and DON occupied the last 2 places.
